Alzheimer's, when did it start ?
The first question a doctor should ask when a patient presents with a medical problem is 'when did it start?' So when looking for a reason for the near epidemic of Alzheimer's disease one has to go back to the beginning and try to find out what triggered the disease.
The first question a doctor should ask when a patient presents with a medical problem is 'when did it start?' So when looking for a reason for the near epidemic of Alzheimer's disease one has to go back to the beginning and try to find out what triggered the disease.
FIRST HISTORICAL DIAGNOSIS
A German psychiatrist, neurologist and scientist, Alois Alzheimer (1864–1915), discovered the pathological condition of dementia and first diagnosed the disease that bears his name. Despite the fact that Alzheimer's was first diagnosed way back at the beginning of the 20thcentury, it remained a very rare condition. According to American Dr.Joel Wallach, the disease did not appear in medical literature until 1979. Indeed, an old medical dictionary that I have on my bookshelf published in 1969 does not mention it. Alzheimer’s disease could not be found in any medical dictionary or textbook nor in any medical curriculum. So what has changed? DISEASE CAUSED BY PHYSICIANS
Dr Wallach believes that Alzheimer's disease is caused by a deficiency of cholesterol and saturated fats. In a video interview Dr.Wallach said “It appears to me, with no doubt, that it is due to what I call a ‘physician-caused disease’. Wallach blames the dramatic increase of Alzheimer's on “the physician practice of prescribing statin drugs to lower cholesterol and the physician practice of demanding that people give up saturated fat and move towards a cholesterol restricted diet. Physicians should be held criminally negligent for their advice to patients to lower their cholesterol because cholesterol is an essential nutrient to the body. Because doctors have encouraged people, to get their blood cholesterol down below 200, they have created no less than 25 of these cholesterol diseases and to me, Alzheimer’s disease is one of the big ones”. This hypothesis, endorsed by the medical, political and scientific establishments has been named the greatest scientific deception of the century. Dr.Wallach went on to say, “75% of our brain weight is pure cholesterol, it’s called myelin, it’s this fatty stuff that insulates each nerve fibre of the brain and spinal cord, and we can only make about 10% of our daily need of cholesterol. The other 90% must come from the diet. Someone who is on cholesterol lowering statin drugs and on a low cholesterol diet will, over time, starve their body of cholesterol. In this condition the body has only one place to get cholesterol and that is from the brain. This draining of cholesterol from the brain is what causes Alzheimers disease. Cholesterol should really be an essential nutrient like calcium, vitamin A, vitamin C and zinc.” What makes the work of Dr. Wallach unique is that while he asserts that Alzheimer's disease is a physician-caused disease, he believes that all other dementias are caused by mineral deficiencies and that dementia is reversible. SATURATED FATS ESSENTIAL
Dr.Mercola, who has his own web site, also highlights the importance of saturated fats for healthy brain function. He points out that our ancestral diet was very high in saturated fats and virtually void of non-vegetable carbohydrates. Today, not only do we eat large amounts of carbohydrates but they are refined and highly processed. At the same time, he says “Adding insult to injury, for the past 60 years conventional medical authorities have also warned that saturated fats cause heart disease and should be severely restricted.” Neurologist Dr. David Perlmutter agrees, saying "We've been led down the wrong road. Saturated fat is your friend. (See article on saturated fats) You desperately need fat. You desperately need to have good cholesterol in your body. That war on cholesterol is a perversion of the science that was even used to tell us we should stop eating foods with cholesterol...We know quite well that in elderly individuals, for example, those in the highest level of blood cholesterol have about a 70 percent risk reduction for becoming demented.” Alzheimer’s claimed 52% more lives in 2013 than in 1990, according to a recent study published in The Lancet journal (18.12.14) The number of UK deaths from Alzheimer’s rose from 32,429 in 1990 to 49,349 in 2013. The financial cost of dementia to the UK is more than £26 billion per annum. ALUMINIUM AND THE FOOD INDUSTRY About the same time as the public was being warned off saturated fats, aluminium, a known neurotoxin, began to be used much more widely particularly in the food industry. Humans are naturally exposed to relatively large amounts of aluminium from food, water and air but recently, aluminium toxicity has greatly increased. Today, according to Analytical Research Labs.Inc, nearly 80% of those tested for metal toxicity reveal excessively high aluminium levels in hair. |
NEUROTOXIC EFFECTS
High levels of aluminium in the body have been shown to have neurotoxic effects on bone and possibly reproduction. This occurs when the amount of aluminium consumed exceeds the body’s capacity to excrete it. Studies have indicated abnormal volumes of aluminium in the brain tissue of Alzheimer patients. In his website newsletter of 24th January 2015, Dr.Mercola describes how 'Aluminium is to your brain and central nervous system as cigarette smoke is to your lungs, producing tremendous oxidative stress. When you review the signs and symptoms of aluminium toxicity, they are quite similar to the symptoms of autism, ADHD, Alzheimer's, ALS, Parkinson's and other neurological diseases'. ALUMINIUM IN VACCINES Some vaccines contain aluminium compounds to make them more efficient. 'Aluminium hydroxide is the oldest and most commonly used vaccine adjuvant and is considered "safe," in spite of scientific evidence to the contrary. An adjuvant's role is to hyper-stimulate the immune system to mount a strong antibody response to the lab. altered virus or bacteria introduced into the body by a vaccine'. Aluminium on its own is not readily absorbed by the body but when fluoride is present, it combines with aluminium to form aluminium fluoride, which is easily absorbed. Neurosurgeon Dr Russell Blaylock in a new report observed, “One study shows that adding fluoride to water in the presence of even small amounts of aluminium caused severe destruction of brain cells in the part of the brain controlling learning and memory. What apparently happens when individuals with aluminium-induced neural degeneration are exposed to fluoride is that the fluoride enhances the toxicity of aluminium. In terms of bio availability, or the ability of aluminium to cause harm, fluoride greatly increases the overall toxic burden of this pervasive metal, rendering it exceptionally more toxic.”
ALUMINIUM COOKWARE Although the use of aluminium cooking utensils has not been shown to lead to aluminium toxicity in general, studies have revealed that consumption of acidic foods or liquids with aluminium, for example, when a fruit such as rhubarb is cooked in an aluminium saucepan, significantly increases aluminium absorption. The use of steel utensils on aluminium cookware can cause additional toxicity by scraping aluminium into food. ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN Aluminium salts are used in cosmetic products such as antiperspirants and deodorants. These salts block sweat ducts and reduce the amount of sweat on the surface of the skin. Deodorants are frequently used after shaving, making it easier for aluminium salts to enter the blood stream. Studies have demonstrated that aluminium salts can penetrate human underarm skin even if it is unbroken, thus significant amounts of aluminium can be absorbed through the skin when antiperspirants are used daily. Other items containing aluminium that can be bought over the counter are vaginal douches, baby wipes, skin creams, suntan lotions, toothpaste (tubes), aspirin and some haemorrhoid and diarrhoea products. Excessive consumption of antacids containing aluminium compounds should be avoided. ALUMINIUM IN FOOD Even foods such as baking powder, cake mixes, frozen dough, pancake mixes, self-raising flour, processed cheese, soya products, table salt (for smoother pouring), instant coffee, tea bags, and powdered milk can contain aluminium. It is also added to foods (E173) as an emulsifying, bleaching or anti-caking agent and to flour to bleach it. The type of person most at risk of aluminium toxicity would be someone who has used aluminium saucepans for many years, uses antiperspirants containing aluminium daily, frequently buys food and drink in aluminium containers, has injections containing an aluminium adjutant, often eats soya products and who drinks fluoridated water treated with aluminium sulphate. The best way to avoid this type of toxicity is to make sure you eat plenty of fresh fruit, leafy green vegetables, nuts, seeds and sea foods, organically produced where possible. If toxicity is suspected a hair analysis would confirm or otherwise the excess of aluminium and/or other metals. Vitamin supplements especially vitamin E, selenium and the B vitamins have proved helpful for sufferers from Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
