Dr. Suzanne Humphries noted in her book Dissolving Illusions that over the years, childhood diseases have shown a tendency to weaken. This tendency has alarmed the drug companies which, of course, want to sell their vaccines and has led to a certain amount of scaremongering on their part.  Take measles, for instance.  We are led to believe that measles is a ‘killer’ disease but if one looks at recent statistics this claim has little to support it.

The World health Organization (WHO) describes measles is a highly infectious viral illness that can be deadly but, although there have been outbreaks every year, when one looks at the UK National Statistics, shown on the table, the number of deaths from this disease has been extremely low for many years and this is a country which does not have compulsory vaccination.  In 2017, even across Europe there were very few deaths.  According to the National Health Authorities, the figures for that year were: Italy 3, Bulgaria 1, Germany 1, Portugal 1, Spain 1, France, 1 and Rumania 21.  This latter country is poor and does not yet have the health facilities of other European countries.  Of the countries listed, as at October 2018, only Italy and France have compulsory vaccination.

Prior to 2006, the last death from acute measles was in 1992. In 2006, there was 1 measles death in a 13-year-old male who had an underlying lung condition and was taking immunosuppressive drugs. Another death in 2008 was also due to acute measles in an unvaccinated child with a congenital immunodeficiency, whose condition did not require treatment with immunoglobulin. In 2013, 1 death was reported in a 25-year-old man following acute pneumonia as a complication of measles. In 2016, one death was reported in a 10-month-old infant who suffered complications due to a secondary infection.
